Yankee Doodle

Yankee Doodle

Rude Bridge

There are two versions of this tune. 1st is the well-known modern version. 2nd is a version from the Revolutionary War, with a variation of the melody.

Suggested form: 1 1 2 1. Play the modern version (1) twice, then the old version (2) once, then the moernn version (1) one more time.

If you don't know the old version, be careful. There are some unexpected accidentals.

Yankee Doodle was originally a British Army marching tune. The red-coats created insulting lyrics to mock the New England militia men. The Yankees turned the mockery into self-effacing humor, and adopted it as their own. Our own. A tune of the Revolution. Mind the music.
