chart-o-tron - The Jamaica Plain Honk Band - How to be the Facilitator (for a Practice)
How to be the Facilitator (for a Practice)
Facilitate during practice
Be at practice, arrive on time
Beforehand, think through setlist, any adjustments etc
Start practice with a round of names and pronouns
Call out songs, following the setlist, adjusting as needed
Okay to make some on the spot changes, for example:
- If too few did setlist poll, you choose songs!
- Kids show up, ... play Sesame Street or Bluey
- A birthday, or other special event
Before each song
Call out a leader and or figure out who will lead it
- Invite volunteers to lead, if none assign one
Chart-o-tron lists people who can lead each song
After each song
With song leader, invite suggested improvements
- Based on input, decide whether to
- rerun whole song,
- do sectionals,
- practice certain parts (end, start, etc)
Call out next song promptly, to minimize downtime
After last song: Facilitate group convo
Invite everybody to a brief conversation to
- briefly make band related announcements
- raise band related issues to discuss
Facilitate the ensuing discussion
- ensure only one person speaks at a time
- call on people in order they raise their hands
- guide people for focused and brief comments
Potentially suggest further discussion continue at
some other time and place later
Immediately after practice: Engage next week's planner and facilitator
After practice post their names to WhatsApp
